Motor cycles are available for rent in many places in the city ,Moon Muang Road having several outlets. A 100 /125 cc bike will cost around Baht 250 per day. Larger bikes are available between Baht 400 - Baht 1000 depending on engine size. Always insist on a helmet being supplied because apart from the safety issues in not wearing a helmet, you risk being stopped and fined at the frequent police checkpoints all over the city.
Theft of motor cycles in Chiang Mai is very prevalent so do take precautions when you park your bike. Also check with the supplier if the bike has insurance against theft.
There are thousands of motor cycles on the roads in Chiang Mai and many of the riders are oblivious to or ignorant of the normal rules of the road. Drink driving rules are not strictly enforced so great care care is required.
