Wat Phrathat Sri Chom Tong

Wat Phrathat Sri Chom Tong is located on Doi Chom Tong and the temple is one of the most important sites in Chiang Mai because it houses a Holy Buddha Relic, believed to be part of the right side of The Lord Buddha's head. This relic is not buried underground, as are most, but is kept in a golden mondop and is brought out for display during the major Buddhist holidays.
Legend has it that The Lord Buddha came to this hilltop, where the Temple now stands, and foretold that the place would house a holy relic.
There has been a temple here since the 15th century. The present Viharn was built at the beginning of the 19th century.
