Dokmai Garden

Dokmai Garden is privately owned by the Seehamongkol family and was opened to the public in January 2009. The 10 acre garden is situated in the Hang Dong area of Chiang Mai on the edge of the Opkhan National Park.
Dokmai Garden is no ordinary garden. Here you will not find endless rows of nameless flowering plants. Here you will not find picnic areas dotted about at random but what you will find at Dokmai Garden is an enthusiasm for nature and all living creatures that is as infectious as it is informative. Here you will be personally welcomed as a visitor and will surely leave as a friend.

Dokmai Garden has selected over 650 plants that are described in great detail on aluminium signs in English, Japanese and Thai and include Tropical Ornamental and Forest trees and plants, Vegetables, Fruit trees, Weeds and Mushrooms. One innovative feature is the grouping together of Thai Herbs according to their use in well known Thai dishes such as "Tom Yam Goong". This is truly a garden for the connoisseur and for those interested in learning about the nature and culture of Northern Thailand. You can wander about at leisure or you can avail yourself of the services of one of the Family who act as guides and are very willing to answer any questions you may have.







The garden has a small restaurant where you can purchase coffee, fruit juices and meals. Feel free to walk about with a glass of chilled white wine in hand and if you get overheated in the tropical sun you can cool down in a shower cleverly hidden behind a display of indigenous Thai orchids.

As with everything else about Dokmai Garden, the garden shop is very far from ordinary. Built from teak wood taken from old houses it is designed in the Lanna style and has only high quality items and antiques on sale as well as a selection of horticultural literature.
