Arcobaleno Restaurant
60 Na Watket Rd., Muang, Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)86-6721543 +66 (0)53-306254

(25/11/2008) Arcobaleno offers a full Italian menu served by a most friendly and helpful staff. Argueably the best frog legs in the North of Thailand and imported steaks and lamb are just a sampling of what is in store for your dining pleasure. An impressive if modest wine list is available. There is ample parking on the premises. Reservations are recommended.

Aroon Rai Restaurant
45 Kotchasarn Rd., Muang, Chiang Mai ☎ (0)53-276947 (Details + Map)

(13/12/2008) Aroon Rai near Thapae Gate is something of a Chiang Mai institution and is popular amongst the backpacking fraternity. It is certainly not plush, quite basic in fact but the food is superb. It specialises in Chiang Mai and Northern Thailand dishes. My particular favourite is 'Gaeng garee gai' (Chicken curry) and no restaurant in my opinion can better Aroon Rai's. Their mango with sticky rice, drizzled with coconut milk topped off with sesame seeds is to die for.

Some of the most popular items on the menu are cinnamon rolls, bagels, pancakes, breakfast burritos, turkey sandwiches and fruit pies. Bake & Bite also provides both in house and outside catering. Beccofino Trattoria
20/2 Soi 7, Nimmanhaemin Rd., Muang, Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)53-226590-2

(12/03/2009) New restuarant on the block
I went to Beccofino last night, this is the latest of three in the chain, the others are in Soi Convent and Soi Thonglo 4, Bangkok. They have only been open a week and are in Soi 7, halfway down, off Nimmanhaeman Road.
It is a typical Trattoria, well decorated with crisp white table cloths, there is some seating outside.
I started with a starter of homemade fettuccini with porcini mushrooms, parmesan with a light oil based sauce, the best I have had here in Chiang Mai. My main dish was butterfish cooked in foil with mediterannean vegetables, very good, not that filling as I did not have potatoes or rice, leaving room for a pud !!
My pudding was tiramisu, had to be really good to compare with others here, served in a martini glass, good taste, again not a big portion but it had more mascarpone and less sponge than others I have had here.
I tried the Italian house white and red wines which were not pricy and perfectly good, I also treated myself to one of the three grappa's on offer, again very good as was the espresso coffee.
The head chef (Italian, from the Swiss side of Italy and he spent quite a lot of time in Tuscany before moving over here, he will spend his time rotating) of all three places was there to start the restaurant off. The restaurant manager is also Italian, Giovanni, and appears to know what he is doing, I thought the restaurant was well run.
My bill for all that was 1300 including service and tax, not cheap but for what I had not expensive either.
I would like to try the Pizza's next time as they are cooked in a wood burning oven and the pizza base that came with the bread basket was crisp and thin, yum yum.
Please try it, its worth supporting,

( 23/03/2009 ) Last evening I was invited out to dinner at the relatively new Italian Trattoria called Beccofino. It was a delightful experience. First there is ample off street parking both in front of the restaurant as well as behind it on Soi 5. It is a definite plus for this neighborhood. We were greeted by very friendly and helpful staff and the manager Khun Giovanni. The dining room is spacious and well appointed. We ordered a baked spinach with cheese and gnocchi in a gorganzola sauce for starters and found both superb. We were afraid it may have been too much cheese to start the meal but were very pleasantly surprised at how light the spinach was and the gnocchi was also done to perfection and as we shared the dishes we got away with it. My friend ordered a chicken dish that came with mashed potato and a side of salad greens. He shared a sample and I found the chicken moist and succulent. I ordered a pesce bianco prepared in a parchment ( actually a foil ) with zuccini, mushroom and tomato that was outstanding. Pudding was a strawberry sorbet and an espresso followed by a Piedmontese grappa which was exceptional.
I was very impressed by the staff who were very knowledge able and confident. It was an extraordinary dinning experience and I would be most happy to recommend this venue to anyone who enjoys Italian cuisine at its best.

Billy Restaurant
42 Kampaending Rd., Muang, Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)53-272712 (Details + Map )

(19/11/2008 )This delightful " piccolo ristorante " is as of this writing one of the newest additions to Italian dining in Chiang Mai. The owner/chef has had a long internship with the largest and arguably the best Italian restaurant in Northern Thailand. He has certainly learned his craft well, for having been open for less than 3 months he has developed a full menu including pizza with an impressive if modest wine list and already has a loyal following. Warm, friendly and great value, it is centrally located near the night market with ample street parking available. Reservations are advisable.

Buonissimo Restaurant

(08/03/2009) Buonossimo's Gli Amici del Vino Wine Club met last night the 7th of March 2009. The following wines were selected for tasting and ranking
(1) Barbera d'Alba "Pio Cesare 2002", (2) Conca Tre Pile Barbera d'Alba " Conterno 2003 ", (3) Sovrana Barbera d'Alba " Beni di Batasido 2003 ", (4) Montej Barbera Monferrato " Sparina 2004 " and (5) Barbera d'Alba " Massolino 2006 ". As usual it was a blind tasting and each wine was served in 150 ml portions.
Dinner started with Carpaccio di Bresoalo con Funghi ( Air Dried Beef with Mushrooms ) followed by Zuppa di Zucca Tartufata ( Pumpkin Soup with Black Truffles )a pasta dish of Garganelli with Ricotta e Spinaci ( Homade Garganelli pasta with Ricotta Cheese and Spinach )was served then the entre' Taglata di Manzo con Salsa ai Porcini ( Grilled & Sliced Strip Beef Loin with Cepe Mushroom Sauce ) Crema al Rum was dessert with Grappa and Espresso.
The wines were very pleasant with the Sovrana Barbera d'Alba " Beni di Batasido 2003 " narrowly winning the honours for the night by 1 point over the Barbara d'Alba " Pio Cesare " which was my personal favourite. I thought that the Barbera grape makes some very pleasant and affordable wines. I often look past this one looking for I am not sure what but, last night put a whole new light on this wine and I will not be over looking it again. The dinner was absolutely superb with each dish surpassing the the previous. It was a really grand night with the marvelous dinner and lovely wine only taking a back seat to the great company.
The wine club is open to those that are interested just contact Don Sergio at Buonissimo. Guest are permitted to join upon appointment but they must pay for the meal and the wine set at the regular price

Charlie's English Fish & Chips
Khampaengdin Rd., Soi 1, Muang, Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)86-9162418

Traditional English style meat pies round out the menu for those home sick for " Old Blighty " or those who just want the real deal. You may eat in or order take-away. Chez Marco Restaurant
15/7 Loi Kroh Rd., Muang, Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)53-207032 (Details + Map)

(22/07/2009) A couple of dear friends and I went to the " Chez Marco " restaurant on Loi Kroh Road last evening. I am very familiar with the restaurant but I had not been there in months. I am very pleased to say that the quality of the food is at least as good as I remembered or better. My friends had the house special of the evening which started with a roasted zucchini salad and was followed by pan seared red snapper and a beautiful medley of vegetables accompanied with a delicious sauce. I went straight for the main entre' of duck breast, saute'ed apples and mashed potatoes also accompanied with a fantastic sauce. My friends had a chocolate mousse and a creme caramel for desert and I opted for a very special " Pear William " as my dinner was very satisfying. All of the viands were absolutely spot on and the service and ambiance was delightfully helpful, cheerful and friendly.
We had selected a very nice bottle of Argentinian Pinot Noir to compliment our dinner and were most pleased. The entire bill was less than 2,000 baht. We could not have had a nicer evening anywhere. I highly recommend this restaurant for both quality and price. Thanks Khun Marco for a great night.

(19/11/2008) A marvelous addition and change of pace to the many food stalls, beer bars and restaurants in the bustling Loi Kroh area. Khun Marco owner and French trained chef is at the helm to bring forth French Provencal cuisine. If you select a table inside the air conditioned dining room you can see Khun Marco in the kitchen and it is like watching an artist at his easel. Delicious selections from tapas to full meals with very pleasant wines to please the palate, all in a very friendly atmosphere at very affordable prices.

Chiang Mai Saloon

(25/11/2008) Proprietor Ron Holley has found a winning formula with this open air beer bar style eatery. A very friendly atmosphere and a menu with something for every one. A full bar compliments any selection one may decide on. The best " Taco " in Chiang Mai can also be found here. It is located very near the " Night Bazaar " . Street parking

Darling The Wine Pub
49/21 Huay Kaew Rd., Muang, Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)53-227427 Details + Map

(20/11/2008) A delightful find very near the Rincome intersection on Huay Keaw Rd., Darling offers a full range of spirits, an adequate selection of beer, a modest but extremely tasty food menu and of course as the name implies a great wine selection suited for every one's pocket. Owned and operated by the affable Trevor Dobson and his lovely wife Gil, Darling is the place to go to relax and enjoy a quiet drink and warm interesting conversation. A truly enjoyable place for their many regulars and a fun and welcoming venue for new comers. All are welcome and all do return, its just that kind of place. Khun Trevor is a superb wine connoisseur in his own right and has managed to locate really nice wines at very affordable prices. I should not have to mention this but , Darling serves a most fair measure on all beverages, sorry to say this is not the case everywhere. There is ample parking in the rear of the premises.

(08/07/2009) I recently had the distinct pleasure of attending a very special wine tasting at the Darling Wine Bar especially for members of the "Privilege 100 Wine Club ". It was a memorable affair catered by Ms. Gill Dodson wife of the owner Trevor Dobson and Marco Lejab of the Chez Marco Restaurant. And a grand selection it was. The wines were from the " ANURA WINERY " located in South Africa.
There were 2 white wines 1 a gold medal winning Sauvignon Blanc the other a very fruity Chardonnay.
The red wines were 2007 Legato, cabernet sauvignon/merlot being fruity, full bodied and well balanced; a 2007 Pinotage/Syrah produced a fantastic result from what I consider a difficult grape even if it is the pride of South Africa a most welcome surprise for my palate; a Limited release 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon which would rival the very best of Bordeaux; and finally a 2005 limited release Syrah/Monrvedre which was absolutely brilliant.
I have never been to a wine tasting where I thoroughly enjoyed every offering and the chances of that ever happening again is probably near nil. Having said that I will try to never miss one of Khun Trevors tastings always in hopes of a repeat performance.
The best news to be able to share is there are at least 3 vacancies for members to the wine club due to folks moving etc. It is free to join and the only requirement is that you are asked to buy 36 bottles of wine in a membership year. Considering that Trevor has been able to find grand selections for very reasonable prices on the strength of his club membership and his personal diligence, makes this a great opportunity If one enjoys wine. I am looking forward to next months selections for club members and hoping for another tasting.

Euang Peung Restaurant
145 Moo4, Soi 7, Chiang Mai Business Park, Muang, Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)53-245979

(06/01/2009) Tucked in with a bevy of eateries and entertainment venues in an area behind the CarreFour super store the Euang Peung restaurant and pub is sporting its new venue. The food is exceptionally good for this type of place and the signature dish " Pla Chon Lai Gang " is superb. The evenings entertainment starts at about 7:30 to 8:00 PM with the Bluegrass boys serenading from table to table followed by a couple of pretty good bands doing favourites from the 60's through the 90's. The real treat for the night was the female singer named Genie who could really belt them out with impeccable English. This is a fun venue with great food and very reasonable prices. There is ample street parking.

Garden Bar & Restaurant at the Lotus Hotel    Details + Map
Lotus Hotel, 2/25 Viangbua Rd., Chang-Puak, Muang, Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)53-215376/215462 Fax: +66 (0)53-221340 http://www.lotus-hotel.com/ E-mail:lotus@loxinfo.co.th

(18/12/2008) The Garden Bar & Restaurant offers a full range of beers, spirits & boasts a superb wine list. The menu is unique in that it is the only restaurant in Chiang Mai the features Lebanese cuisine. However, other international viands along with delicious Thai food can also be found making this a favourite with locals as well as tourists. Proprietor, the affable Khun Mohamad is usually on the scene or near by to assist in describing and or recommending the various dishes. Do ask to see the wine list as you will be pleasantly surprised at the wide variety and the excellence in which it has been compiled. The Garden Bar and Restaurant is a very friendly place to go for alfresco dining, snacks or just a sociable drink and friendly conversation. Ample parking is available on the premises.

(10/01/2009) If you have never experienced Lebanese cuisine then you don’t know what your missing and if you don’t know a kebbeh from a tabouleh, the Garden Bar and restaurant is a good place to get your bearings. The food is fragrant, the service is friendly and the breezy garden is a nice change. It’s a cheerful little spot with fresh Lebanese, Western and Thai offerings but it’s the Lebanese dishes that make it a real dining destination. The Garden Bar and Restaurant are indeed a hotel bar and restaurant but they stand alone as a testament to one mans passion for his native treats and sweets. The affable proprietor, Mohamad Jesr, is a well known fixture in Chiang Mai and he pours his heart into cooking the culinary favorites of his birthplace using authentic recipes and ingredients.
Among the many starters available, I think the standout as well as the best sampling dish is the “Mezze Platter” which includes a healthy portion of potato with coriander and garlic, braised cauliflower, hummus, babaganouj and mushrooms in coriander and garlic. Mezze is equivilant to Spanish tapas which means “little tastes”, a snacking tradition. Each dish is delicious unto itself but also scrumptious when blended together on a piece of freshly baked pita bread. And fear not…if you fall in love with one of the dishes they are all on offer separately in large portions too. Another personal favorite of mine is the “Head of Garlic Roasted in Olive Oil”. Here the chef takes a whole large head of garlic, slices off the top, covers the garlic in olive oil and bakes the whole thing in foil. The result is delicious, smooth cloves that are easily removed and spread on the accompanying toast for a yummy and healthy taste treat.
On the main course side, one should try the “Kafta in the Oven” made with fresh ground beef, parsley and onions, fresh tomatoes and potatoes baked in a tomato sauce with pomegranate puree. There is also an excellent “Chicken ala Kiev” consisting of a beautiful chicken filet stuffed with garlic, herbs and butter and baked in the oven. You may have noticed that the majority of the dishes on offer are healthy and many are also vegetarian. Another touch that sets the Garden Bar apart are the housemade pickles.
Any visitor to a Lebanese restaurant should also dip into the housemade Hummus, pronounced Hoomoos which is a Turkish word meaning “the real thing”. It’s a wonderful, smooth chickpea puree with a lemony tang and a deep flavor served on that fresh, puffy pita bread.
Desserts range from the Western housemade “Cheesecake” to the Lebanese “Namoura with Almonds and Cream in Lemon Curd and Caramel” and also include delicious sorbets made on site from seasonal fruits. Rumor has it that “Shawarma” (a Lebanese version of the Greek Gyro) is coming soon for you lamb lovers as well as a “Cherries Jubilee” for the sweet tooths like me. Plans are also in the mix for an indoor area for those who prefer four walls and an air conditioner.
No one is perfect and on some occasions the food can come out slow so order on arrival. Everything is fresh so go on a night when you can enjoy a slow food experience rather than a quick bite. If you want to enjoy any of these treats in the comfort of your own home The Garden Bar menu is also available on Meals on Wheels for U. Bon Appetite!

Giorgio Restaurant
2/6 Prachasamphan Rd., Chang Klan, Muang, Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)53-818236

(25/11/2008) One of the older Italian restaurants in Chiang Mai, Giorgio is located very near the " Night Bazaar ". Proceed on Chang Klan Rd. through the Sridonchai intersection and about 50 meters on the right is a half right turn that places you on Prachasamphan Rd. and Giorgio is in a row of shop houses about 30 meters on the right. Now that you are there get ready for a magnificent dining experience. From starters to desserts some of the best Italian fare this side of Veneto is there for your pleasure. The lasagna is beyond compare anywhere and the steak is said to be the best in Chiang Mai. An impressive wine list to round out your dining extravaganza is available. Reservations are a must.
( Closed on Sunday during the low season ) Street parking.

(03/02/2009) Best Italian in town overall. Though some would disagree. For dinner be prepared to wait. Food is good, and yes there is a real Georgio, though now he spends his time at the new one, Casa Antonio I think it is, across from the Empress Hotel, in a location that use to house a Korean Restaurant. Also nice, intended to be a bit more up scale than his first location. The one I am mentioning though is run by his wife who knows the business. Georgios menu is good, a little more than some of his competitors, but I have been coming here since they opened and generally always happy with the experience. It is on Chang Klan Road, the little spur road that angles off Chang Klan after the Pantip Intersection. Next door to Kul Massage

Girasole

Kad Klang Viang, Ratchadamnoen Rd., Muang, Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)53-276388 +66 (0)81-6030294

(20/07/2009) ( Edited to remove personal abuse.) On the night of July 16th my girlfriend and i decided to try eating at Girasole. It was a warm night and we decided to eat inside as most of their outdoor tables were already taken. The inside is small with about 8-10 tables and their kitchen. The windows were open but it was unbearably hot as the kitchen is in the same small room.We asked them to turn on the air conditioning which they did. However 10 minutes later it was still very hot as they never really tuned their large air conditioner to a reasonably lower temperature. We told them it was still hot which seemed to upset the lady in charge behind the counter. She proceeded to tell us to move to another table by yelling at us in Thai as we changed tables moving our own utensils and drinks ourselves. How could we even begin to enjoy our meal after that?! We both had a minnestrone soup which was ok.My companion had a plate of potatoes, and seashell pasta with cheese which was good. I had a mixed salad (not mixed), and a pepper steak (390 baht)accompanied by about 15-20 french fries?.I asked for ketchup and was given hot chili sauce instead. No offer was made to replace my fries even if i can't eat spicey food.I asked for butter for my bread and our waitress did not know what i was talking about. The butter arrived rock hard from the fridge ,but became soft within 5 minutes with the room temperature. Our bill arrived with no names of the items we ordered on it .Instead were the numbers of the items from the menu we we could not check the bill without reading the menu again.I told my girlfriend to wait for my outside as I decided to speak to the lady inside.
I called the manager of Girasole the next day(a lady named Jim). She apologised ,and said that the air conditioning was always supposed to be on at supper time. She asked for my hotel"s name and my name and room number to compensate us for our horrible experince by inviting us to their other restaurant with compensation.Guess what? We never received anything from them.In all my years of travel in Asia this was by far my worst dining experience

Green Mill Restaurant
Soi Lanna Hospital, Muang, Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)53-210999    ☎ +66 (0)53-212400 (Details + Map)

(04/09/2009) Green Mill continues to please every time I eat there. The cuisine is a nice blend of traditional and more contemporary Thai foods – with plenty of Farang dishes. The tamarind duck is my favorite together with the baked mussels with cheese and spinach. I have never had a bad dish there and the manager / cook can prepare food to everyone’s taste – more or less spicy – up to you. The restaurant contains a terrific wine cellar and the atmosphere: ‘ a clean, well lighted place

( 19/11/2008 )This is a delightful venue for quiet dinning or small parties. The menu is an interesting mix of International as well as Thai favourites. The local fresh water " Tab Tin " fish filets sauteed in butter and the various ways soft shelled crab are served not to mention the duck in tamarind sauce and the Isaan style ( Northeastern Thailand ) beef steak may give an idea as to the diversity of selections. I have found that for several diners it is great fun for everyone to make selections and dine " Thai style " sharing all the various dishes. " Home " made desserts are an absolute confection with coffee, espresso, cappuccino and assorted teas available. The Green Mill also is quite proud of their impressive wine cellar. The management and staff are most gracious and knowledgeable. Ample parking is also available.

Gung Pao Supan Restaurant
4 / 1 Soi Sukasame, Super High Way Chiang Mai - Lampang Rd ☎ =66 (0)53-409434 ☎ +66(0)81-7965989

(31/12/2008) This is a very large garden style Sea Food restaurant on Soi Sukasame about 200 metres past the Lanna Hospital. The huge succulent raw oysters and grilled fresh prawns that had until you ordered been swimming in the holding tank that you see as you enter. This is truly a great find as many locals dine there regularly. The ambiance is a bit spartan but that is more than compensated for by the delicious fare and very friendly prices. Not to be missed for those evenings when you really want to get serious about fine food. Open from 4:00 PM to 10:30 PM every day. Ample parking is available on the premises.

Hofbrauhaus Restaurant
115/1-2 Loi Kroh Rd., Muang, Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)53-276989

(25/11/2008) A firmly established German restaurant with Italian, Spanish and Thai food selections. Located in the middle of the busy " Night Bazaar " area is certainly a favourite with tourists and locals alike. Prices are friendly and so is the staff.

House of Palm Restaurant
162 / 6 Moo 5, Raungnaue, Doi Saket, Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)53-291401 +66 (0)81-9508559

(01/12/2008) After living in Los Angeles and owning and operating the very successful " House of Palm " restaurant there, Khun Montree and his lovely wife Khun Tim have returned to their native Chiang Mai and opened the " House of Palm " in Doi Saket. An inviting tropical garden style restaurant features primarily Thai cuisine with their own personal flair. Attended by a very helpful and friendly staff each dish arrives after having been carefully prepared and is artfully presented for your dining pleasure. The exotic menu offers delicious selections for every taste from the very spicy to mild. A modest wine list is available as is a selection of beer and soft drinks. It is well worth the short drive out the Chiang Mai-Doi Saket-Chiang Rai Rd. 500 meters past the 13 kilometre marker turn left on Soi Luang Nua a short distance to the " House of Palm " on the left hand side of the soi most major credit cards are accepted and there is ample parking on the premises. Reservations are recommended.
Editor's Note: It has been brought to our attention that the the Restaurant mentioned above in Los Angeles was the Jitlata and not House of Palm.

Jia Tong Heng

193/2-3 Sridonchai Rd., Muang, Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)53-275242

(15/09/2009) A gaggle of us went to Jia Tong Heng's restaurant recently to celebrate with a friend visiting from Bei Jing. We all enjoyed the viands very much and some of our favorites were the white asparagus, duck in Chinese 5 spice, braised pork ribs, oysters cooked in eggs and a steamed sea bass. there were a number of other dishes I just can't remember. We must have enjoyed them as well as there was nothing left on the plates. It is a nice venue and we were seated in a private dining room with our own serving staff. It was a truly fun night and conversing at a round table just added to joy of the evening. A really nice place to visit with a moderate sized dinner party and also moderately priced. There is a parking lot in the back of the restaurant which makes it convenient as well.

Joe Jets Burger Emporium (CLOSED, Moving to new premises)

237/1 Huay Kaew Rd., Suthep, Chiang Mai    ☎ +66 (0)80-0577588 (Details + map)
E-mail   joejets@windowslive.com
( 24/03/2009 ) I had heard about this restaurant from my friend who had not had the occasion to eat there. So I thought I would give it a try. I am so happy that I did. I have an extra ordinary high bar in judging the standard for a good hamburger and am always happy to find a venue that serves a good one. The ambiance is very cleverly done to some what resemble an airplane cabin. The menus are made to appear as an over sized British passport and the staff are attired as flight attendants. Bright and airy and comfortably air conditioned with the look and feel of the 1950's. The best news is yet to come. I selected the 150 gram classic beef cheeseburger,an order of frings ( half " proper " french fries and half onion rings )and a root beer float ( or brown cow )if you are old enough to remember. The burger was very meaty and prepared just the way I like them and was as full of flavour as it looked and served on a grilled sesame seed bun. The french fries and onion rings were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside the way they are supposed to be. Sadly it is not the case everywhere. The root beer float was served in an old fashioned style metal container like they used to prepare milk shakes and other sundries in. All in all it was a very pleasant experience inclusive of a trip down memory lane. Very moderately priced. My selections came to 160 Baht net. Do look at the inserted page provided to customize your burger as there are additional selections that don't appear on the main menu.
Street parking and free delivery in the Chiang Mai University area and also available with " Meals on Wheels for U ".

(08/04/2009) For lunch today I was transported back to Main Street, USA courtesy of Joe Jets Burger Emporium. This cleverly thought out, 50's style, all-American diner complete with 50's music, and its quirky airline theme, deserves to do well in Chiang Mai. The food is freshly prepared so there is a short delay which is certainly worth waiting for. I savoured the delights of an old fashioned Chilli Dog with the best fries (not French Fries...hurrah)I have tasted in a long time accompanied by a root beer float (for a moment I thought I was in 1950's Manhattan). Friends had equally delicious 150gm Burgers served in sesame seed buns and cokes. All fare on the menu is extremely reasonably priced. As I've said, this diner deserves to do well and I urge you to pay it a visit soon. You certainly won't be disappointed.

I noticed some different items on the menu and a whole section of pasta I had not noticed before. The other very pleasant surprise I had was the prices have been reduced by a lot. The food quality and service remained as impeccable as always.Y7X5

Little Tibet
8/3 Moon Muang Soi 6, Muang, Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)89-7573075 (Details + map)

( 01/04/2009 ) Last evening I had the occasion to dine at the " Little Tibet "restaurant on Moon Meaung Soi 6. It is a small but very charming open air style shop house that for some reason seems to be very relaxed. The ambiance is a bit spartan but it is also very peaceful. It may have been because the owner was meticulously tending the many potted plants that hang over the entrance way. The restaurant offers a full menu of international and Thai favorites. However, I selected from the limited Tibetan offerings which are Sha MoMo,a dumpling stuffed with a pleasantly seasoned pork and steamed then garnished with lettuce, tomato and cucumber along with a piquant dipping sauce. This dish is also served fried but when I asked I was told that the steamed version is more nearly Tibetan. I also had the Tenduk a delightful vegetable soup in a light savoury stock with tiny dumplings about the size of tapioca pearls. The servings are most generous and the soup is enough to share. The other item on the Tibetan menu was Tse MoMo the same as the Sha MoMo but stuffed with a vegetable filling. I was very pleased with both the viands and the service. I will be going back to try some of the other selections.

(08/12/2008) Nasi Jumpru has relocated from their rather small artsy & trendy restaurant in the " JJ Market " to their new large very artsy and very trendy restaurant / art gallery on the Chiang Mai / Maejo Rd. This stylish new venue has been built from the ground up by proprietor Khun Noom, featuring a yet to be completed art gallery on the ground floor and the restaurant on the second floor which is level with the main road way. The interior boasts floor to ceiling glass walls accented by rich wood tones. The furnishings are white in colour adding to the artsy decor. There is also a small private dining room for more intimate dinners. The food comes to the table looking like a piece of art and is every bit as delicious as it looks. The menu is Thai / fusion with some standard Thai food favourites. Limited wine and beer selections to complement your meal are also available. Nasi Jumpru offers in house and outside catering for those special parties. Reservations are recommended. There is ample parking on the premises.

(31/12/2008) As a 'farang' on holiday in Chiang Mai, I had the pleasure of dining at this highly recommended restaurant. The main dining room has a welcoming ambience and a decor which is simple and yet subtle. The attentive waiting staff are always present yet unobtrusive. The menu is Thai fusion and is full of delicious sounding dishes. I personally can vouch for the tuna dumplings drizzled with rich dark soy sauce as an appetiser and the roast duck in sweet tamarind sauce with mashed pumpkin as a main dish was outstanding. Dessert was my favourite..warm sago with sweet canteloupe balls. As yet, the restaurant does not have the facility to accept credit cards.

Nimman Bar & Grill
Kantary Hills, 44 Nimmanhaemin Rd., Soi 12, Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)53-222111

(02/07/2009) My friend and I went to the " Nimman Bar & Grill " last evening and unknown to us every Wednesday evening there is a carvery from 6:00 PM to !0:00 PM. What a pleasant surprise it was for us. We started by selecting a very moderately priced Pinot Noir from New Zealand for our wine and were not disappointed. We then moved on to the salad bar and nearly over sported as it had a wide selection of tasty offering including a salmon mousse ( my description ). The carvery boasted roast beef, lamb, pork w/crackling and chicken. Two or three different types of fish were also available as well as a full range of side dishes. After letting our belts out a notch or two, we
shamelessly attacked the dessert bar. I have not been to a better carvery anywhere in Chiang Mai and for the 490 baht ++ we were very satisfied. All through dinner we were serenaded by a very talented singer that truly made for a memorable evening. As noted by the name there is a full service bar for your pleasure. There is ample parking on site. Reservations are recommended.

Nimman Kitchen by Krit Restaurant
22 Srimangkalajarn Rd., Muang, Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)53-895199 ( Details + Map )

(13/08/2009) Every time I visit Chiang Mai I make a point of visiting this, one of my favourite restaurants, several times at least. A great way to start the evening is a relaxing drink or cocktail with friends at the adjoining La Vie en Rose where the cocktail might be expertly mixed by the very personable Krit himself. The decor is a combination of black and pink, with indoor and outdoor seating and all very comfortable. The bar staff are very attentive and always on hand to replenish empty glasses. Nimman Kitchen I have seen grow from strength to strength. Krit seems to have struck the right chord with the menu and prices. Again, seating is both indoors and outdoors. As regards the cuisine, I can particularly recommend for appetizers the Salmon Kam Wan, Fried Mushrooms and the Smokey Barbecue Chicken Wings. All are decent sized portions and reasonably priced. As for the main courses, I am a sucker for the Gaeng Garee Gai, Gaeng Massiman and the Tom Jeut. If you haven't visited I suggest you do so soon...you certainly won't be disappointed. The menu itself doesn't change but Krit always has a board displaying that evening's specials

(19/11/2008) A charming little bistro style eatery which is a bit spartan in appointment but comfortable enough. Serving unadulterated authentic Thai and Northern Thai cuisine along with a smattering of " Khun Krit Original " offerings. The deep fried " Tab Tim " with lemon grass and the roast duck or chicken salads are not to be missed. The " Pla Kung " a "yum" or Thai style salad with or without the chili paste is a remarkable dish for the more adventurous. A nice selection of starters, soups,   " kaeng " Thai curries, and assorted entrees all round out a delicious and exciting menu. The staff are charming and most helpful. Highly recommended for both price which is very reasonable and quality of food.

Ouh La La (Restaurant now Closed)
166/12 Chang Klan Rd., (Opp. Shangri La Hotel) Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)87-8320794 Details + Map

(06/02/2009) The night bazaar area of Chiang Mai can be packed this time of year, but harried shoppers can walk a couple of blocks down Chiang Klan Road and find relief. An awning and outdoor bistro tables give Ouh La La a noticeable presence on the street, but it still feels like stumbling upon a brasserie on a back street in Paris. French flourishes are everywhere, from framed images of Paris to glass windows etched with the Eiffel Tower to sleek deli cases filled with fresh baked goods.
The décor  is lean but appealing. Ouh La La is the kind of place where everyone can feel comfortable – from young tourists or locals to the newly retired, from those decked out in summer’s sleekest garb to others lounging in worn jeans and slip on shoes. The restaurant is operated by the amiable Marco who handles the kitchen and the efficient and pleasant Carole who rules the dining room. Most of the menu consists of standard French-inspired fare and though the cooking isn’t flashy, the results are solid.
Several in my party began the night with the SHRIMP BISQUE  and although I would have liked to taste a bit of sherry or white wine in the bowl I found it satisfying and at the surprisingly low price of 80 baht per bowl it’s hard to complain. I also tried the GOOSE LIVER PATE (90 baht) which was delicious and was served along with warm, crusty baguettes and chilled, sweet butter. A friend thought the MELON AND SHRIMP SALAD ( 90 baht) was bland but when he asked for oil and vinegar the dish became quite palatable. The ESCARGOT IN PROFITEROLES (120 baht) was a favorite for me and was particularly delicious when paired with the bisque.
The stand out of the main courses was the COQ AU VIN (140 baht) which arrived gorgeous and aromatic. The chicken fell off the bone and the sauce was awash with mushrooms, wine and garlic. The DUCK CONFIT ( 180 baht) was also cooked to perfection in its own fat and slid easily off the bone. On the downside, a friend thought the TAGLETTELLE WITH SALMON (180 baht) was lackluster in flavor but couldn’t deny that it was fresh.
The restaurant has a feeling of control about it. I think that feeling comes from the host that has the no-nonsense glare of a drill sergeant, with a trace of a smile lurking under the surface, waiting to emerge. She handles the front of the house practically by herself and does a better job than three people do at other places.  In general the service is prompt and efficient—sometimes overly so, as when our Thai waitress hovered and then cleared plates as soon as one of us finished, even though the others were still eating.  This has always been a pet peeve of mine but it seems to be common practice in the land of smiles.
You all should know by now that my favorite part of the meal is dessert and we tried a few. The CRÈME BRULEE (110 baht) had a nice texture but tasted overly eggy to me. The PROFITEROLES ( 90 baht) were delicious and chocolaty and tasted house made but the pedigree was sealed with the TARTE TATIN (90 baht). It’s a textbook preparation, with a thin crust and thick wedges of apples glistening in dark caramel, just a shade shy of tasting scorched. I thought flavors could be smoothed out with a dollop of tangy crème fraiche on top, which would also act to keep things from becoming cloying but it was still heavenly.
I have always said “The  plates have to be good, the welcome needs to be warm, the price decent, and the ambience and service need to be good” and they are heading in all the right directions. Ouh La La is just getting its footing, yet it is already making a statement in the neighborhood dining scene. It can only get better.
Ouh La La is located at 166/12 Chiang Klan Road opposite the Shangri La Hotel. Call Carole at 087-8320794 for directions or reservations.

(13/02/2009)After having read the review on this site my friends and I set out for the rather new " Ouh La La " restaurant located at 166/12Changklan Road opposite the Shangri la Hotel. Our experience started as soon as we arrived as both tables set up for alfresco dining were occupied with obviously satisfied patrons smiling and chatting over beautiful looking desserts and coffee. As we proceeded there were diners at 2 of the tables totally engrossed in their dinner.I would not have mentioned this except that every one in our party looked at each other smiling approval of our choice for the night. Now down to business. I had the shrimp bisque which I thought superb and one of my friends had the onion soup which was not only a surprise but absolutely delicious. We all tasted everything maybe to the chagrin of the other diners but they were so absorbed in their own meals I don't think they noticed. the onion soup is not to be missed. We all then had a selection of starters to share which consisted of goose liver pate rich and creamy, the pork pate country style robust in flavour and the escargo which was delightful but just a bit salty. Our entre's were the confit of duck which was served in a piquant sauce with raisins and prepared to perfection. One of us had the Coq au vin the classical french stewed rooster in red wine which sent the "ouh la las " around the table and one of us had the chicken in tarragon to be recommended when you think you have had chicken prepared every way imaginable this dish is set apart and does not disappoint. We all then had the cheek to have dessert and coffee and understood the smiles that greeted us on our arrival. I had the iced nougat which I have never had so I can't compare it with any others but will certainly have it again as I feel in love with it, one of us had the creme brulee which all of us thought was the best one we had ever tasted, a slice of apple pie with a dalop of cream was a smash hit all around the table and finally the chocolate mousse which was totally decadent. The coffee was freshly brewed and refreshingly delicious. Our entire Dinner which included a bottle of French wine was 2800 Baht. The wine was 1300 baht.So 4 people ate all of that food for 1500 baht, unbelievable.
Khun Carole commands the dinning room with a friendly precision and is very knowledgable about the menu and the wine list which is concise but adequate. Do ask Khun Carole about the wine as there are selections off the list she will share with you. Khun Marco has the kitchen and prepares his viands like an artist. He also greets you at the table and is a most refreshing breath of fresh air. The restaurant is relatively new having opened Dec. 8 2008 but seems to be doing all of the right things. We all thoroughly enjoyed the entire dinning experience and heartily recommend this venue to all who enjoy French fare at its best.

21/02/2009) Ouh La La (087-8320794) is a small restaurant that you would not wish to tell many people about for fear of not being able to get a table. The restaurant is small, a single shop unit having approximately 20 covers inside and a few outside. The trouble with eating outside is the main road (Changklan) that it fronts, opposite the Shangri-La Hotel. In side there is air conditioning, however the Maitre d' likes to keep the door open but not too much of a problem.
The Maitre d' and the Chef/Owner are typically French and do not have much to say in English, however, the Chef speaks Thai. The atmosphere inside is pleasant with a modern beige feel about it and a glass front.
The food is typically French country cooking and is of a good standard. Attention is paid to the stocks used, slow cooking times needed, for some dishes, and ingredients used. The Chef Owner continually comes into the restaurant to check that all is ok, so if one speaks French or Thai then a chat about the food is welcome.
The Boulangerie has Homemade and bought in items and is open for Tea. The price is not important here as it is low and represents excellent value for money, I would have been happy paying more.

Ridgley's (Restaurant now Closed)
520 Moo 3, Sansai Noi, Sansai, Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)53-490846 (Details + map)

(10/04/2009) Along with a couple of friends I sampled the fare this evening at this relatively new small eatery in the Sansai area and it was a pleasant experience. We decided to sit inside which was lovely and cool but if we had so desired, seating is available outside. The menu is largely American with a wide choice of appetizers, salads, burgers, pizzas, and pasta not forgetting a wide range of desserts. We tried the BBQ spare ribs with the meat literally falling off the bone and smothered in a rather sweet BBQ sauce and at only 159 baht for a huge portion, just too tempting for words. The salads too are generous portions and topped with croutons and shaved parmesan and choice of dressing. The banana splits are the real thing and are huge so make sure you leave some room!!! Our only criticism was the lack of any background music which might help especially if the place was busy which it wasn't when we went but then it had been open since 11.00. Definitely worth trying for a change.

Sabaidee Santitham Restaurant
65 Santitham Rd., Muang, Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)89- 9514554   ☎ +66 (0)81-8851329

(05/07/2009) After having heard of this relatively new restaurant the 4 musketeers set off to check it out. We arrived to find an older traditional style Thai wooden house so we ventured in. We found a lovely setting leaning toward the exotic with out going over the top. We were graciously seated in a some what open area looking out into a small garden with a waterfall and decoratively placed Lanna style artifacts We were all a bit taken back with the ambiance. The waiting staff arrived at the table and helped us navigate through the rather extensive menu. They were most friendly as well as helpful.
Our selections began to arrive and one was more tasty than the last. We had ordered quite a bit of food starting with asparagus and shrimp, then came the seaweed soup, fried Tab Tim fish with lemon grass, stir fried morning glory, glass noodle salad, pork in lime sauce and fried pork ribs. It was all outstanding. We had a wide variety of Thai dishes and none were disappointing. As much as we had we all decided to have another go at the fried pork ribs. I think mostly because we enjoyed ourselves so much we didn't want to leave. Every thing deserves a very big thumbs up from the ambiance to the super waiting staff on to the absolutely delicious Thai food and very reasonable prices. There is limited street parking. Reservations are advisable.

(11/07/2009) Five of us went to Sabaidee for dinner having heard some favourable comments and boy, we were not disappointed. The evening started with cocktails at the bar watching the little fish swim in the aquarium built in to the countertop. There is something quite calming sitting on the high bar stools, sipping a cocktail watching the myriads of fish darting too and fro in their underwater world. The barman’s English is excellent and he mixes a brilliant Mai Tai and Singapore Sling. A nice touch was the free glass of iced water which kept being replenished and the vegetable crudités with a Caesar dressing dip.
Dinner was a leisurely affair and the service excellent. The menu is Thai and is full of tried and tested dishes and not so common dishes. We can particularly recommend the Beef Panang and the Chicken Green Curry. All the while, the smiling and ever attentive waiters are waiting and watching. The owner too keeps a watchful eye that all is well with his patrons.
One of our party asked for the dessert menu to be told that they didn’t have desserts, which to be fair, is acceptable since Thais themselves tend not to eat dessert. However the owner must have noticed his disappointment and the next thing we knew, a large dish appeared on the table with a selection of fresh fruits. The owner did not need to do this, but it’s a nice little attention to detail, so often lacking here in Chiang Mai which stands out.

(11/08/2009) We have been to this restaurant several times and found it excellent but not last night. It appears to have become a victim of its own success.
The restaurant was anything but full when we arrived so we had a drink at the bar first. That was mistake number one. They had no bottles of whisky so someone was sent to get one and the making of one cocktail took 25 minutes. In the end, the barman said he just put a little of this and that in the drink...too true...it had never seen a MaiTai...but it was alcoholic!!!!
Mistake number two. We reserved a table which another waiter promptly gave away to someone else!! By this time the restaurant was full so a table had to be put hastily in place for the three of us. The service was appallingly slow and our food took 45 minutes to appear from ordering. Even then, they tried to give us someone else's order!
Management need to learn from this fiasco and do something quickly such as employ more staff otherwise they are going to lose their regular customers and the tourists will have all gone. Not a word of an apology for the slowness was forthcoming all evening apart from being sent martini glasses filled with cucumber strips (presumably to stave the pangs of hunger). However, the food when it did arrive was excellent and despite the full house not a single "Moht Laew".
All in all not an evening I would like to repeat in a hurry. A real shame because we thought that this was a restaurant that was going to do well.

Saen Kham Terrace Restaurant
199/163 Moo 3, Ban Nai Fun 2, Mae Hia, Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)53-838990

(03/02/2009) This is one of the nicer Thai Restaurants in Chiang Mai.  The decor, service and food are all exceptionally good.  As such is more expensive.  I have generally always been happy with food here.  The prices less so, but it is a good place to take out of town visitors to.  Staff is nicely uniformed, do fairly well in English, and the food it artfully presented.  If you drive around to the back of the complex it is in, there is off street parking, and an elevator up to the restaurant.  One minus, they have on the table a decorative style show plate, which they leave for your food plate.  It is not the best kind of plate to eat off.  Overall a nice experience

St Germaine Des Pres Restaurant
4/1 Ratchawithii Rd., Muang, Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)53-289557

(15/09/2009) Two friends and I went to St.Germain des Pres restaurant the other day and had a delectable dining experience. The menu is set up so you can select a starter, main & dessert for a set price of 575 or 675 baht depending on the main course selected. Of course you can order a la carte if you don't care for all three courses. One friend had a salad for a starter and grilled salmon on a bed of spinach garnished with prawns all in a creme sauce for his main course and chocolate mousse for dessert. My other friend had a patty of chopped cauliflower and I am not sure what else but it must have been delicious as he was seen trying to eat the pattern from the plate. His main course was a grilled rack of lamb and an apple tart with vanilla ice cream for dessert. I had oysters in a port creme sauce to start followed by grilled pork loin with a mushroom creme sauce and lime sorbet for dessert. Every one was thoroughly pleased with their dinner and were discussing when we should return for another pleasant outing. The waiting staff were cordial as well as knowledgeable and there is a massive parking lot along side the restaurant. I would highly recommend this to any one who enjoys French cuisine.

(25/11/2008) Operated by Khun Pope this delightfully cozy breath of fresh air in the middle of old town Chiang Mai offers an outstanding French menu at very moderate prices. Start your evening with aperitives on the roof top lounge while being entertained with very easy on the ear music selections from the house collection. Opened for lunch and dinner. There is a spacious parking lot along side the premises. Reservations advisable. ( Closed on Mondays )

Suan Phak Restaurant Complex
61 Moo 3, Sanahmbin Rd., (Next to Airport Plaza) ☎ +66 (0)53-201690

(03/02/2009) This is a trio of restaurants.  I have been coming here since they opened the first one the "Suan Phak".  Now have added two more in the complex. One serving a complete Thai menu, and the other offering everything from breakfast selections to Yen Ta Fo.  It is popular with the Thai's, but the salad place less so. All are good. Service is good, and the setting is very nice.  You can order from any menu in any of the 3.  The Salad place uses some Organic greens, grown there, and is also good.  All a little more in the price point than some of the Thai Restaurants charged, however, given the sanitation, quality of the product and the generally good end result, well worth the price difference

Sub Rosa Bistro Restaurant CLOSED

(17/06/09) I had the pleasure of attending the Grand Opening of the" Sub Rosa " restaurant last evening. It was a marvelous party with a very wide representation of Chiang Mai Residents. The free flowing wine and scrumptious nibbles certainly added to the festive occasion as well as whetting my appetite to delve into the very well rounded menu. There is a fine selection of appetizers, soups and salads followed by a full range of international favorites including " home made grandmother's own Dutch selections " which are absolutely delicious. the restaurant has made the best use of space available maximizing seating with out being claustrophobic. But I think the nicest part of the evening was the staff that were always there with out being on top of you and very knowledgeable and friendly. They made the night a complete success. It is very moderately priced with adequate wines selections and a full range bar. Located at 252/3 Prapoklao Road next to Thai Airways Offices.
Ample street parking is available and reservations are recommended.

(22/07/2009) I had the occasion to go to the " Su Casa " Tapas bar and restaurant last evening with a couple of friends and a fun night it was. The menu its self is fun to read and trying to narrow down the selections is very difficult. But, there is only so much that even chow hounds like us can eat. But here goes, we started with the oyster shooters and then came the eggplant with a red pepper sauce, spinach with apple & raisins, artichoke croquettes, beef stew, braised beef tongue and pork spare ribs to die for. We took a bottle of red wine as none of us could remember what was on the wine list. We did have a look after we arrived and decided to have a bottle of chardonnay from the list and it was splendid. There were also some very nice reds available as well. Next time we will order from the list there as it is also very reasonable. Everything was excellent all of the food, not one disappointment, wine, cheerful and friendly service and a very relaxed ambiance. We made a very filling, balanced and delicious meal from " tapas " great great fun. Highly recommended

(02/07/2009) I don't often go out for lunch but to my good fortune a dear friend and I had been shopping at the local garden market and decided to try a rather new sushi restaurant he had been told about. Located in the trendy Nimmanhaemain are near the corner of Soi 11 it is a single shop house with a rather spartan but comfortable decor high lighted by some intriguing prints strategically placed to rather set the tone. Sushi lovers need look no further as this is the very best in the city. Opened for only 4 months they already set the mark which will be extremely difficult for anyone else to match. Needless to say we absolutely enjoyed or lunch.
I am also very happy to be able to pass this information along. Hand made viands with the freshest of ingredients at a very reasonable price. It just does not get any better. Limited street parking and reservations are never amiss.

The Duke's Restaurant ( Details + Map )
Chiang Mai Pavilion, 1st & 2nd Floor, Chang Klan Rd., Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)53-818603
49/4-5 Chiang Mai - Lamphun Rd., Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)53-249231

(21/11/2008) Proprietor Khun David Anichowski pulled out all of the stops when he conceived the idea behind The Duke's. The epitome of American style eateries offering a complete range of " Yankee " delights; From starters i.e., steak kebabs or the very popular chili poppers to the Portuguese bean soup, sumptuous salads right through the steak & rib combos or scallops wrapped in bacon to mention just a few of the delicious selections available. Nobody makes sandwiches like The Duke's deli-style or burgers and I would be remiss if I didn't mention the various pasta dishes and the Chicago Style pizza. If by chance you can manage dessert there are fantastic viands including a dinner plate size chocolate chip cookie. The Duke's features full bar services and an impressive wine list. Khun Dave also offers catering services for all of your party needs.
Reservations are recommended and there is convenient street parking.

(31/12/2008) If you are American and homesick then head for this restaurant (one of a chain I believe)where the food is as American as the 4th of July and just how mom made it back home.

(03/02/2009) This establishment has two locations.  I have only been to the one just below the Nawarat Bridge, on the road that runs adjacent to the  Ping River.Address is 49/4-5 Chiangmai-Lamphun Road.  It has the moniker of being the best American Style restaurant in Chiang Mai.  That is probably well deserved.  Their Burgers, Ribs and other offerings are all American taste, and good.  The Manager ran restaurants in Southern California.  Easy to read menu, good pricing.  Easy to find, and generally no parking problems.  Serivice staff is good and efficient.  Has a lot of Locals who like it.  Only real downside is the chairs. One can get a hernia moving the chair around. But worth a trip.  By the way, it is ncluded in The Thailand Tatler's list of 150 Best Restaurants of 2007, and touts offering 120-day grain-fed imported prime beef, as well as imported seafood, and Chicago-style thin crust pizza.

The Good View Restaurant
13 Charoenrat Rd., Watgate, Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)53-241866

(31/12/2008) A large restaurant on the bank of the River Ping. Although the food is good, its a place probably suited to going to in a crowd. There seemed to be many office parties taking place when I went there. Great live music.

The House Restaurant
199 Moonmuang Rd., Muang, Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)53-419011-3

(27/11/2008) Managed by Khun Chart this is the finest in fusion cuisine. The restaurant is located in a compound featuring a colonial style house with various out buildings. The restaurant and wine & tapas bar is in the main house with the cocktail and wine bar to the right as you approach. The dining room is on the first floor with additional dining or private function rooms on the second floor. The cuisine is superb with an artfully fused blend of east and west. Some of the dishes may seem quite bold but these fresh ideas really do work. The house is very proud of their wine list with something for every taste and budget. For formal dining or light fare The House is just the ticket. Reservations are advisable.

(20/11/2008) Publican Mr. Grahame Quinn is managing the oldest pub in Chiang Mai and in a grand fashion it must be said. An Olde English style pub/bar with bungalows is situated back from the road in a lovely garden setting just past the Rincome intersection. The pub serves all of your English favorites daily from morning to late night including the " Full Monty " English breakfast. Also at The Pub is the Sunday Roast, The Gentleman's Club, Wednesday night lucky draw, weekly trivia quiz and Saturday
Barbeque. Be sure to check with Khun Grahame for all the updates. A very friendly atmosphere with very friendly prices.

The Steak House by Le Crystal
Le Crystal, 44 Atsadathorn Rd., Muang, Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)53-224123
http://www.lecrystalrestaurant.com

(27/11/2008) Khun Riddhi Diskul's latest gastronomic adventure in Chiang Mai opened in August 2008. Being American I relate to this pub / restaurant as our style but my British friends assure me it is more their style. However you may view it, it is with out doubt another winner from Khun Riddhi. The succulent steak menu I will claim as American and the rest of this extensive and delicious menu I will give up to international cuisine. The ambiance is very warm and friendly with impeccable serving staff you would expect from any establishment by Le Crystal. While dining you are entertained by an American country style band even though there are selections by the " Beatles " and the " Bee Gees ". Desserts are a confection and selections from the adjoining bakery / coffee shop are also available. If this reads as though I am having a bit of fun it is because I do have a great deal of fun along with a superb meal every time I visit. I believe you will as well. The Steak House by Le Crystal also boasts a comprehensive and reasonably priced wine list as well as a full service cocktail bar. Reservations are advisable. There is ample parking in the parking lot opposite and the staff are pleased to validate your parking receipt.

West Restaurant
120/2 Soi 7, Nimmanhaemin Rd., Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)80-1227136 ( Restaurant now re-located to Unit B5-6 Srimangkalajarn Rd., Muang, Chiang Mai)

(15/12/2008) " West " is one of the more recent additions to the Nimmanhaeminda area. The menu though concise offers viands from around the globe. Spanish paella, Cajun rice from Louisiana , Pastas from Italy and Fish & Chips from England just to list a few. Tucked away on Soi 7 Nimmanhaeminda Rd " West " is a very pleasant alfresco experience. There is also a dinning room for those who would prefer air conditioned comfort. Reservations are recommended

Yangzi Jiang Restaurant
10 Nimmanhaemin Rd., Soi 5, Muang, Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)53-225313

(13/12/2008 Khun Leo founder of the Mei Jiang restaurant on Chang Klan Rd. has opened this marvelous addition to the Nimmanhaeminda Rd. corridor. Arguably the most stylish area of Chiang Mai City with a warren of trendy bars, restaurants and coffee shops. It is often said that compared to Thai cuisine Chinese cuisine is boring. This idea could not be further amiss. Khun Leo has developed a menu that is both exciting and delicious. The Hong Kong flare he brings to his style of Cantonese cuisine is absolutely spectacular. Open from 11:30 AM to 14:30 PM Yangzi Jiang offers delectable Dim Sum along with its regular menu. The restaurant re-opens at 18:00 PM to 22:00 PM for dinner. Situated in a former house on Soi 5 Yangzi Jiang offers ample on premises parking. Reservations are recommended.

Yoy's River Bar
218 Wangsingkam Rd., Muang, Chiang Mai ☎ +66 (0)53-872070

(03/12/2008) Yoy's is a great place to go to chill out. The 2 bands that play nightly provide some good music to compliment your dinner, snacks or drinks from the full service bar. A modest wine list is also available. The rather extensive menu offers international as well as Thai food. The old rule of thumb that says when the menu is large the food is probably ordinary does not apply here. The international food is well done and the Thai selections are superb. A very helpful and friendly serving staff make your experience a memorable one. A wide range of beverages, good music and great food in a friendly ambiance at very reasonable prices truly makes " Yoy's " the place to enjoy. The street parking is adequate.
