Nightlife in Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai really comes alive at night as the bars and nightclubs begin to fill. There are live bands nearly everywhere and the discos, especially at weekends , are very full. This is a university city and the students love to party. Karaoke is popular with the Thais who never miss an opportunity to burst into song. While the law seems to vary in various parts of Thailand, in Chiang Mai most of the venues have to close their doors by 1am.

Karaoke

Karaoke is all the rage in Chiang Mai. Everybody wants to sing. Fortunately many Thais, like the Welsh, have reasonably good singing voices but not all!. Most Karaoke bars will have at least a few tracks in English. Many Karaoke bars have hostesses who are available to sit with a customer and help with the singing. In return she will expect to drink and possibly eat on your bill and also a tip. It is not unknown for other services to be offered.
