Visas on Arrival can be applied for at Chiang Mai International Airport along with 11 other Immigration Checkpoints in Thailand. All applicants must posess a fully paid ticket out of Thailand which is usable within 15 days from the arrival date. Visas on Arrival cost Baht 1900
Extensions of stay are at the discretion of the Immigration Officers.
Overstays are illegal and you can be detained, taken to Court and held until you pay the fine. However, if you manage to reach your airport without being caught it's simple to pay the fine of Baht 500 per day up to a maximum of Baht 20000. Alternatively, you can "own up" at your nearest Immigration Office and pay the fine there. Ensuring that you don't overstay is by far the best solution.
All foreigners who stay in Thailand for more than 90 days must report to their local Immigration office at the end of the first 90 days and every 90 days thereafter. Failure to do so will result in a fine of up to Baht 5000 and a Baht 200 per day fine as well. If you should change your address you must also report within 24 hours or face another fine of up to Baht 5000.
